Q

The Fermat’s principle

A

When a light ray travels between any two points, its path is the one that requires the smallest time interval.

A general principle of geometrical optics, known as the Fermat’s principle, states that in all cases (including propagation in non homogeneous media) light traveling from one fixed point to another moves along a path whose optical length is either a minimum or a maximum compared with the others.
