Who was Shah Wali Ullah?
Shah Wali Ullah was born in 1703 in Delhi during the reign of Auranzeb. His real name was Kutab-ud-Din and his father’s name was Shah Abdul Rahim, who was the founder of Madrasa-e-Rahimya. Shah Wali Ullah got his early education from his father and then later taught in Madrasa-e-Rahimya. He went for Hajj in the year 1730 and there he got his inspiration from Abu Tahir bin Ibrahim. He died in the year 1762.
Who was Syed Ahmad Shaheed Barelvi?
Syed Ahmad Shaheed Barelvi was born in Rai-Barailly, Lucknow in 1786. his fathers name was Shah Ilm Ullah. Syed Ahmed was spiritually inspired by Shah Abdul Aziz, the son of Shah Wali Ullah. At the age of 24 he joined the army of Amir Khan of Tonk. Syed Ahmad Shaheed Barelvi also launched the Jihad Movement and died in the year 1831.
Why did the Jihad Movement fail?
Syed Ahmad Shaheed Barelvi lost the Jihad Movement because:
1) Mujahideens were not trained in political compromise and diplomatic skills. On the other hand Sokhs were more skillful diplomats.
2) Mujahideens had no proper supply of weapons and equipment while the Sikhs had a proper supply.
3) The local Pathans did not support their fellow Muslims. Syed Ahmad also lost his local support due to his severe punishments and he was not acceptable as caliph for the local Pathans.
4) The mevement failed because it was considered a Wahabi Movement.
