5. Limiting factors of photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

name the three optimum conditions for photosynthesis

A
  1. High light intensity of blue, red wavelengths
  2. Temperature,
    • at low temperatures (10C) enzymes are inactive
    • at high temperatures 45C enzymes begin to denature
    • at high temperatures the stomata also close to prevent water loss, reducing speed of photosynthesis as there is less CO2 entering the cell
  3. Carbon Dioxide at 0.4% is the most effective for photosynthesis, any higher then the stomata

Q

how do farmers use optimum conditions?

A

to produce the most high quality yield using green houses
- right CO2 levels
- correct wave length of light to reduce cost
- right temperature for effective enzyme function
