What were the aims of Nazi education?
● To indoctrinate young people with Nazi racial and political ideals and make children loyal to Hitler.
● To train girls to be good wives and mothers and prepare boys for a life in the military.

Teachers were required to join
the Nazi teaching union (NSLB).
By 1939 97% were members.

They fired Jewish teachers.

Teachers had to attend summer
camps to learn how to teach
Nazi ideas more effectively.
Who were children encouraged to inform on in terms of school?
Children were encouraged to
inform on teachers who didn’t follow
the rules.
What happened to academic subjects?
Academic subjects were
downgraded. With much more
of a focus on PE.
What did the school curriculums teach boys and girls to be?
Boys and girls followed different
curriculums; with girls being
prepared for motherhood and
boys for the military.
What happened to school subjects?
Subjects were altered. Biology
now taught eugenics, History
and Geography reflected the
greatness of Germany and the
Nazis.
Where were boys that showed potential for military jobs sent?
Boys that showed potential
were sent to Adolf Hitler
Schools. They were run along
military lines, and prepared boys
for roles as future leaders.
Where were young men in their 20’s sent if they showed potential?
Castles of Order were for young
men in their 20s who showed talent. Again, they were military
in nature and life was fairly
brutal.
What youth group took over many other youth groups and when?
In 1933 the Hitler Youth (HJ) took over many other youth groups, for example the Scouts.

● To make them loyal to Hitler.

By 1939 90% of German boys were members of the
Hitler Youth.
At what age could boys join the Hitler Youth at?
They could join at 6 and join the main organisation at
14.
What activities did boys take part in in the Hitler Youth? (x5)
+ Boys took part in activities such as shooting and
marching and other activities that prepared them for a
life in the army.

flying, motorcycle repair and sailing.
