What are checks and balances?
Each branch of the government has the power to control the actions of the other branches to prevent one branch from becoming too powerful.
What is federalism?
The division of power between the state government and the federal government.
What is a dictator?
A ruler with complete power.
What is an incumbent?
A person who holds political office.
What is a candidate?
A person running for political office.
What is the elastic clause?
It allows Congress to stretch their powers to make new laws.

A person who has been forced to leave their country to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

A person who goes from one place to another to find work.

To forgive a crime.

To bring formal charges against an official such as a president.

Part of the government that carries out the law; the head of it is the president.

The power of the Supreme Court to decide if a law is constitutional.

The use of violent acts to frighten people to achieve a political goal.

A school class that deals with human relationships and the way society works.

Money that the accused person leaves with a court as a promise they will return for trial.
