10
Q

What does the selection “Auto-load” do?

A

Automatically sequences the electrical, hydraulic and mechanical functions of the gun loading system. Rounds are moved from the lower loading station or upper loading station to the loader drum and/or breech without further manual switching.

13
Q

What does the selection “Auto-strike-down” do?

A

It is used mainly for re-arming. The lower accumulator emergency motor is used to reposition the lower hoist. The lower hoist then raises or lowers the storage tanks containing projectiles or powder cases between the magazine and the loader drum. The upper loading station, intermediate station and lower loading station must be empty before performing an Auto-strike-down.

16
Q

What does the selection “Step-load” do?

A

Lets the control and test panel EP2 operator cycle rounds from the lower loading station to the loader drum or from the upper loading station to the breech.

17
Q

What does the selection “Step-unload” do?

A

Lets the operator unload rounds from the cradle to the upper hoist.

18
Q

What does the selection “Step-offload” do?

A

Lets the operator off load rounds from the upper loading station and the lower hoist intermediate levels to the lower station.

19
Q

What does the selection “Step-strike down” do?

A

This selection is used mainly during re-arming. The upper loading station, intermediate station and lower loading station must be empty before performing a step-strike-down.

20
Q

Give a brief description about the Lower Hoist…

A

The lower hoist is an endless chain hoist that transports ammunition from the gun magazine to the loader drum.

21
Q

Give a description about the Loader Drum…

A

The Loader drum receives and stows 5” rounds ready to be positioned for fuse setting and then ejection into the Upper Hoist. The Loader drum has 20 ammunition cells and each cell is magnetically coded so that the system and operators know the total amount and type of rounds in the drum.

22
Q

Give a description about the Fuse setter…

A

The Fuse setter is an electro hydraulic device installed on top of the loader drum above the transfer station. When setting mechanical fuses, the setter extends over the projectile and continually adjusts the fuse until the fire order is given, it then retracts to allow the round to be shifted into the upper hoist and cycled.

23
Q

Locate where the Cradle is with a small description…

A

The cradle is a pivoting tube located between and below the gun pivot points.

24
Q

Locate where the Rammer is with a small description…

A

The rammer is a chain-operated pawl inside the cradle.

25
Q

Locate where the Breech Mechanism is with a small description…

A

The breech mechanism consists of the breechblock, empty case extractor and gas ejector equipment, and is located above the gun barrel housing.

26
Q

Locate where the Recoil Pistons are…

A

One recoil piston is on each side of the gun barrel in front of the gun barrel housing.

27
Q

Describe where the Empty Case tray is located.

A

The empty case tray is on top of the slide, behind and to the right of the breech mechanism.

28
Q

Describe where the Empty Case Ejector is located.

A

The empty case ejector is located above the gun barrel housing, to the right of the breech.
