5. Drug action, Drug study and Evidence-based nursing Flashcards

1
Q

What are the principles of Drug Action?

A
  • Drugs do not create new response, but it alters existing physiologic activity.
-Drugs interact with the body in several
different ways. It forms chemical bonds with
    receptors.
  • Most drugs have several different atoms
within each molecule that interlock into
    various receptors.
  • Drugs interact with receptor to stimulate a
    response are known as AGONISTS.
  • Once drug is administered, a drug goes
    through 4 phases: Absorption, Distribution,
    Metabolism and Excretion
