Military Training Routes Defined
VR - VFR,

Three Digits means above 1,500’ AGL,
Four Digits means Below 1500’ AGL
Class A (other requirements)
Above 24,000’ MSL VOR and DME required
VOR type required VHF VOR or TACAN + RNAV
Altimeter setting 29.92
- Aircraft separation 2000’ vertically for Non-Reduced RVSM
- Regular RVSM is 1000’ Vertical separation
Class B Defined
Solid Blue Line (Many shelf’s) “look like upside down wedding cake”
Certain Bravo Airspace’s are restricted to student pilots
30NM mode C veil
Class C Defined
“Solid Magenta Line” Lower Layer Length 5NM from airport, Shelf length 10NM from airport
Some Class C have hours of operation: when closed Class C goes to E or G airspace contact via CTAF when tower closed
Class D Defined
“Dotted Blue line” smaller airports with control towers (usually 4.4 NM from airport)
Always check chart supplement of airport, some Class D towers have hours of operations
Class E Defined
Controlled Airspace, controlled by Air route traffic control center (ARTCC)
Four Common Versions:
- “Not Depicted” 14500’-17,999’ or Overlying Airspace
- “Shaded Magenta” airspace 700-17,999’ AGL,
- “Dotted Magenta” airspace SFC-Designated,
- “Blue Shaded” Airspace SFC-700’ Soft Side/700’-1200’ Hard Side’.
