4rd Grade Flashcards
What is an equivalent fraction
Fractions are equivalent if they are equal or represent the same amout 1/2 == 4/8
What is the purpose of having a common denominator on fractions?
Having common denominators makes things like comparing, adding, and substracting fractions easier
How can we found a common denominator for 2 or more fractions?
We need to list the multiples of each denominator until we find the smallest multiple they have in common

How can we compare fractions?
We can compare fractions by seeing which one takes up a greater portion of the same whole
What is an improper fraction?
Is a fraction where the numerator is greater than or eaqul to the denominator
9/4, 5/3, 10/2
What is a mixed number(numero mixto)?
It´s a numberconsisting of a whole number and a proper fraction
4 1/2
1 3/8
12 5/6
How can we re-weite a mixed number as an improper fraction?
3 4/5

How can we re-write an improper fraction as a mixed number?
10/3

How can we write a decimal as a fraction?
We write the decimal number as a numerator and we write its place value as the denominator
In a decimal number, what happens if we have a number to the left of the decimal point?
We keep that number as a whole number
re-write 0.07 and 2.1 as a fraction

Resolver estas fracciones a decimales
1/2
1/4
1/5
1/2 = 0.5
1/4 = 0.25
1/5 = 0.2
What measure Volume?
Volume measure capacity
What is the most common units of volume are?
millimiters and liters
1 liter into milliliters?
1 liter = 1000 milliliters
8 liters = ? milliliters
8 liters = 8.000 milliliters
45 ml = ? L
45 ml = 45/1000 = 0.045 ml
What is distance?
espacio considerado desde una perspectiva lineal, entre una persona o cosa y otra
Name the most common unites of distance?
millimeters, centimeters, meters and kilometers
1 centimeter = ? millimiters
1 meter = ? centimeters
1 meter = ? millimeters
1 kilometer = ? meter
1 centimeter = 10 millimeters
1 meter = 100 centimeters
1 meter = 1000 millimeters
1 kilometer = 1000 meters
1 foot = ? inches
1 yard = ? feet
1 yard = ? inches
1 mile = ? yards
1 foot = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet
1 yard = 36 inches
1 mile = 1760 yards
What is a line?
a line extends forever in both directions

What is a line segment
is just part of a line, it has two endpoints

what is a ray?
a ray starts at one poing and continues on forever in one direction

what is a perpendicular line?
are lines that meet at right angles

what is a parallel line
lines that are always the same distance apart from each other, they will never meet

What is an angle?
is a two rays that share a vertex

What is a vertex?
typically means a corner or a point where lines meet, the plural is vertices
What is an acute angle in degrees
between 0º and 90º
What is a right angle in degrees
exactly 90º
What is a obtuse angle in degrees
between 90º and º80 º
What is a straight angle in degrees
exactly 180º
What is a line of symmetry?
is a line where we can fold the image and have both halves match exactly

When shapes are symmetrical figures?
if they have at least one line of symmetry on them

What is an acute(agudo) triangle
An acute triangle has 3 angles that each measure less than 90º

What is a right(recto) triangle
it has 1 angle that measures 90º and 2 acute angles

What is an obtuse triangle
it has one angle that measures more than 90º and 2 acute angles

What is a equilateral triangle?
it has 3 equal sides

What is an isosceles triangle?
it has at least two equal sides

What is a scalene triangle?
it has NO equal sides

Resume all these quadrilaterals?
quadrilateral
parallelogram
trapezoid
rectangle
rhombus
square

What are factors?
factors are whole numbers that can evenly divide another number
Name a purpose of a factor number?
It gives us a way to break down a number into smaller pieces
What is a factor pair?
are two numbers that we multiply together to get a certain product.
To get the product of 8, we can multiply 1 x 8, and 2 x 4.
So the factor pairs for 8 are 1 and 8 and 2 and 4
Which number is a factor of all numbers?
1
What are multiples numbers?
Un múltiplo de un número es el que lo contiene un número entero de veces. En otras palabras, un múltiplo es un número tal que, dividido por a, da por resultado un número entero (el resto de la división euclídea es cero).
are numbers that result when we multiply one whole number by another whole number.
the first four multiples of 3 are: 3, 6, 9, and 12
3 x 1 = 3
3 x 2 = 6
3 x 3 = 9
3 x 4 = 12
some other multiples of 3 are 15, 30, 300
3 x 5 = 15
3 x 10 = 30
3 x 100 = 300
How can we identifyin multiples?
we can check to see if a number is a multiple of another number by seeing if it can be divided evenly by the number
15 is a multiple of 3 because 15 % 3 = 5
17 is not a multiple of 3 because 17 % 3 = 5 R 2
How do factors and mutiples relate?
why 4 and 7 are factors of 28?
4 and 7 are both factors of 28 because they both divide evenly into 28
We can divide almost all numbers into…?
two categories:
prime numbers (números primos)
and composite numbers (numeros compuestos)
What is a prime number?
numbers with exactly 2 factors
the only factors are 1 and the number itself
what is a composite number?
numbers that have more than 2 factors.
It has factors in addition to 1 and the number itself
