4lec Flashcards
Treatment of FRACTURE SHAFT OF FEMUR
Conservative treatment by traction and splintage
Cast or functional bracing
Treatment by external fixation.
Operative treatment with internal fixation.
The advantages of early mobilization
Surgical treatment of knee dislocation
Knee Cartilage Repair
Knee debridement Knee chondroplasty is often done in conjunction with debridement
Knee Cartilage Replacement
Arthroscopic surgery.
Reconstructive surgery.
INTERMITTENT CLAUDICATION
Is a symptom of arterial insufficiency in the lower limb. In its typical form it is characterized
by cramp-like pain in the calf, induced by walking and relieved by rest.
RECURRENT SUBLUXATION OF THE ANKLE
When the lateral ligament of the ankle is torn and fails to heal there may be persistent
instability with recurrent attacks” of giving way in which the talus tilts medially in the
ankle mortise. Anterior displacement relative to the tibial articular surface may also occur.
Talipes equino-varus
The foot is adducted and inverted at the subtalar, midtarsal, and anterior tarsal joints, and is held in equinus (plantarflexion) at the ankle.
CONGENITAL TALIPES CALCANEO-VALGUS
The foot is everted and dorsiflexed.
The cause is unknown. In some cases, it may simply be a postural deformity, from folding of the foot against the shin for a long time in intrauterine life
Treatment for central dislocation
non-surgical treatment by skeletal traction and Traction should, however, be maintained for 4-6 weeks until bony stability has developed.
Symptoms of iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS)?
Hip pain
Clicking sensations
Knee pain
Warmth and redness
Exercises for anterior knee pain
the combination of hip
and knee strengthening exercises has been found to
reduce your pain and help you return to full activity.
Exercises that are designed to strengthen your thigh
(quadriceps) and hip (abductors, lateral rotators,
and extensors) muscles are all beneficial for those
with patellofemoral pain
Complications of Knee dislocation
- Compression or damage of the peroneal nerve that runs along the outer edge of the calf
- Rupture or obstruction the popliteal artery and vein located at the back of the knee
- The development of deep venous thrombosis (DVT)
Telescopic intramedullary nailing is used to
1-Prevent or stabilize fractures
2-Correct deformities of long bones in 18 months or older children with osteogenesis imperfecta.
Contraindications for telescopic intramedullary nailing are
children at the age of skeletal maturity
