4b Energy Transfers Flashcards
What are the different energy stores?
- Kinetic
- Thermal
- Gravitational Potential
- Chemical
- Elastic
- Nuclear
- Magnetic
- Electrostatic
What are the different energy transfers?
- Electrically/ electric current
- Radiation (by wave eg. light, sound)
- Mechanically (by a force)
- Heating
What is a kinetic store?
energy store of moving objects. The higher the speed, the more energy in the kinetic store
What is a chemical store?
energy stored by fuels/food/batteries
What is gravitational potential?
The higher above the ground an object is, the more energy in its GP store
What is an elastic store?
Energy stored by objects that have been stretched/deformed eg. stretched elastic bands
What is a thermal store?
The hotter an object, the more energy in its thermal store
What is a magnetic store?
Energy store of eg. two separated magnetic poles
What is a nuclear store?
Energy store of nuclei atoms
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed only transferred.
Total energy before = Total energy after
