4.8 Flashcards
Cranney et al. (2009) reviewed the graduate attributes of the 4th year Australian undergraduate psychology program. For graduate attribute #6: Learning and the application of psychology, they suggested two learning outcomes that would enable students to understand and apply psychological principles to personal and social issues:
Reflect on one’s experiences and learn from them in order to identify and articulate one’s personal, sociocultural, and professional values; demonstrate insightful awareness of one’s feelings, motives, and attitudes based on psychological principles
Apply psychological principles to promote personal development through self-regulation in setting and achieving career and personal goals; self-assess performance accurately; incorporate feedback for improved performance; and purposefully evaluate the quality of one’s thinking (metacognition) (p. 259)

The ‘practice’ or praxis is the act of doing something
based on theory and reflection
According to Aristotle, praxis is informed by a
moral disposition to act rightly with a concern to further human wellbeing and the good life
Phronesis requires an understanding of
other people in context
