First degree burns
Only epidermis affected, redness, pain, slight edema, healing = 3-5 days NO SCARRING
Second degree (partial-thickness)
Involve epidermis and dermis but leave some of the dermis intact. Produce redness, blisters, and more severe pain. Healing = 2-3 weeks MINIMAL SCARRING
Third degree (full thickness)
Involve epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissues which are often completely destroyed . Healing takes long time and involves skin grafts
Fourth degree burns
destroy all layers of the skin and involve tendons, muscles, and sometimes bones.
