4.5.6 Forces and Motion Flashcards
What does a horizontal line show on a distance-time graph?
Stationary
What does a diagonal line pointing upwards show on a distance-time graph?
Constant speed, moving away from the start point.
What does a curved line show on a distance-time graph?
Acceleration or deceleration (depending on the direction of curve).
What does a horizontal line show on a velocity-time graph?
Constant speed
What does a diagonal line pointing downwards show on a velocity-time graph?
Deceleration
How do you calculate distance travelled from a velocity-time graph?
The area under the line - Split the area into trianges, squares and rectangles and calculate the area of each one then add them together.
Thinking distance is…
…how far we travel during our reaction time.
Braking distance is…
…the distance we travel when we are braking.
Thinking distance is affected by:
Distractions, alcohol/drugs, tiredness, speed.
Braking distance is affected by:
Road conditions, worn tyres, poor brakes, speed.
