Q

Why is understanding the meteorological component of sea level important?

A
  1. They have a strong influence on sea levels - coastal flooding & can cause considerable damage
  2. They have a strong influence on currents and sediment transport, and hence coastal erosion
  3. For design of coastal and offshore structures
  4. Renewable energy generation
  5. Recreation e.g. surfing, kayaking
  6. Navigation (safety at sea)
