4.3 study guide Flashcards
1
Q
what are greenhouse gases
A
gases that absorb infrared radiation. They also must contribute to the greenhouse effect
2
Q
Describe the greenhouse effect
A
- suns radiation comes to earth 2. half is reflected or absorbed by clouds and atmosphere
- the rest comes to earth and is absorbed by oceans and land
- the earth releases heat back to space
- some heat passes directly through atmosphere
- but most is captured by greenhouse gases.
3
Q
What do ice cores tell us about the patterns of CO2 and temperature for the past 800,000 years
A
when Co2 increases so does the temperature and vice versa.
4
Q
positive feedback
A
ex: CO2 is added to the atmosphere to start with, the last outcome is more CO2 being added; positive
