alert them to individual incidents; and to provide data for trend analysis.
In general terms RIDDOR requires
a responsible person (as defined in Regulation 3) to follow a reporting procedure (laid down in Schedule 1) to inform the enforcing authority of specified events
RIDDOR-reportable specified events are…
DeathsSpecified injuriesOver-7-day injuriesTaken from the scene of an accident to hospitalWork-related diseasesDangerous occurrencesGas Safe registered gas fitters must also report dangerous gas fittings
The easiest way to report a RIDDOR-reportable an accident, in most cases, is

Accident Incident Rate (AIR) This is the most commonly used accident rate, it is an expression of
the number of defined accidents in a given period per thousand employees
Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) Where there may be many part time workers, long shifts and overtime working the frequency rate may be a more reliable indicator than the incidence rate. The frequency rate is
the number of defined accidents in a period per 100,000 person hours worked
