What was the impact of the cultural revolution on Mao’s position?

A

Cultural revolution very significant on Mao’s position. He had become more powerful as a result of the events of the CR. He had always believed that turning China into a communist country required absolute obedience. Mao was unchallenged as his opponents were removed making him unchallenged leader. CCP under Mao’s control. Those party members who had questioned Mao had been replaced by devoted loyal members. Population supported him. Loyalty achieved as opponents were re-educated.to support Mao’s ideals of communism.

Events of the CR increased Mao’s power. Also increased suspicions so that he came to believe leading members of the CCP were against him. As the CR ended Mao was quite isolated in the political system.

A

CR had a negative effect on the development of the Chinese economy Managers who loyalty to communism was suspected were removed and their replacements often lacked necessary skills to run successful buisness. The use of trains to transport Red guards around the country meant a shortage of trains to bring raw materials to the factories and transport goods to market. Worst years between 1966 and 1970, when industrial production fell

Oil production declined
Steel production fell
Bad for the economy that was emerging for the effects of the GLF. Impact on agriculture was server. CR essentially an urban movement. Government introduced rationing
