Emergency aid
rapid assistance given to people or countries in immediate distress to relieve suffering during and after emergencies such as wars and natural disasters
EA: Purpose
short-term assistance designed to address immediate needs and keep people alive
Bilateral Aid
provision of aid from the government of one country to the government of another country
BA: Purpose
help reduce poverty and bring about long-term sustainable development by helping governments of recipient countries to strengthen their economic, political, health and education systems and eventually become self-sufficient
Multilateral Aid
aid provided through an international organisation, such as the World Bank, United Nations or WHO, combines donations from several countries and then distributes them to the recipients
MA: Purpose
contributes to the achievement of equity in h+w and HD
Non-Government Organisations (NGOs)
non-profit organisation work to promote health and wellbeing and human development and they operate separately from governments
NGO: Purpose
- Bring strong connections to local communities, which means trust has often already been established
NGO Advantages
+ Focuses on small community-based projects targeted to specific needs of a community
+ Can often access areas that other forms of aid is unable to reach
+ Have a comprehensive knowledge of poverty and its causes at a local community level
