Q

What are some non-random sampling

A
  • opportunistic - uses organisms that are conveniently available
  • stratified - populations divided into strata and then randomly sampled from
  • systematic - carried out using a line or belt transect. Samples taken systematically

Q

What are the 5 sampling techniques for animals

A
  • pooter - to suck up small invertebrates
  • sweep net - to catch flying insects or insects that live on leaves
  • pitfall trap - catch small crawling invertebrates
Tree beating - catch invertebrates living in trees or bushes
  • kick sampling - study organisms living in a river

Q

What are the two sampling techniques for plants

A
  • line transect - organisms found at the regular sample points are recorded
  • belt transect - quadrats are placed at regular sample points and the abundance of the organisms within each is recorded
