4.2 Study Guide Flashcards
What is the ATP Cycle?
The ATP releases energy as the ADP gains energy. The ATP is like the charged battery, and ADP the battery that needs charged.
What is Metabolism?
All chemical reactions of life.
What does anabolic mean?
Making largee molecules out of smaller ones.
What does catabolic mean?
Breaking down larger molecules into smaller ones.
What does exergonic mean?
Releasing energy.
What does endergonic mean?
Requiring energy.
What does hydrolysis mean?
A chemical breakdown of a compund due to a reaction with water.
What does synthesis mean?
The production of chemical compounds by the reaction of simpler materials.
What does an exergonic graph look like in terms of energy of reactants and products?
The reactants are at the top, and the products at the bottom so symbolize releasing energy.
What does an endergonic graph look like in terms of energy of reactants and products?
Reactants at the bottom and products at the top to symbolize requiring, or gaining, energy.
How are endergonic and exergonic related to each other?
Endergonic needs to pair with exergonic to begin or have a chemical reaction.
How are catabolic and anabolic related to each other?
Anabolic reactions borrow the energy made by catabolic reactions.
Please tell the term of all chemical reactions of life.
Metabolism.
