What is organized religion?
social institution involving beliefs and practices based on objects and ideas that are recognized as sacred and worthy of reverence
What are the four forms of religious organization?

What is ecclesia?
dominant religious organization that includes most members of society that is recognized as the national or official religion
What is church?
a type of well-integrated religious organization that attempts to provide an all-encompassing worldview for followers
What is sect?
a religious organization that is distinct from the parent religion from which it was formed
What is cult/new religious movement?
a religious organization that is far outside societal norms
What is the definition of secularization?
process through which religion loses its social significance in modern societies
What is fundamentalism in regards to religion?
second response to modernist societies in which there is a strong attachment to traditional religious beliefs and practices

extent of influence of religion in a persons life
What is the definition of rational-legal authority?
form of leadership where legal rules and regulations are stipulated in a document

What is charismatic authority?
leadership and power due to persuasion
What is an aristarchich government?
controlled by a small group of people, selected based on specific qualifications, with decision making powers
What is an autocratic government?
government controlled by a single person, or a selective small group, with absolute decision making power
