4.1.1.1 Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes Flashcards
1
Q
What are eukaryotic cells? (with examples)
A
Eukaryotic cells contain their genetic material (DNA) enclosed in a nucleus
For Example: animal and plant cells
2
Q
What are prokaryotic cells?
A
In prokaryotic cells, the genetic material (DNA) is not enclosed in a nucleus. They are much smaller than eukaryotic cells.
For Example: bacterial cells
3
Q
What are the differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?
A
- Prokaryotic cells are much smaller
- Prokaryotic cells have a nucleus
- Prokaryotic cells have no membrane-bound organelles (mitochondria, chloroplasts)
