Malpresentation of fetus
Malpresentation of the fetus refers to the presentation of any fetal part at the pelvic inlet that is NOT vertex.

ROP
Face and brow presentation
Face and brow presentation is a malpresentation during labor when the presenting part is either the face or, in the case of brow presentation, it is the area between the orbital ridge and the anterior fontanelle.
Face presentation
- fetal head is fully extended
almost at a right angle to the spine - palpation on VE - chin rather than brow
*
Causes of a primary face or brow presentation
- Fetal anomalies
- ie major CNS abnormalities
- anencephaly
- Iniencephaly
- Meningomyselocoele
- fetal head conditions cause permanent extension of the fetal head
- cervical spine deformities
- goitre
- cystic hygroma
- brachial cysts
- Prematurity
- excessive tone in the extensor muscles of the fetus
- Multiparity
- Idiopathic
