4.1 ICS Flashcards
Why does the MAP interface with the MCDS?
MCDS allows for frequency control and for ICS access control
Where is the MMAP located?
Mission Maintenance Audio Panel
Located at the key fill location on the E810 rack
What does the FDMCP stand for?
Flight deck mission control panel
What does FDMEU stand for?
Flight deck mission electronics unit
What does FDIU stand for?
Flight deck interface unit
What does the FDAP do?
The FDAPs provide the flight deck crew with access to the voice-capable mission radios and the three ICS crew member conferences
What do the FDMCPs do?
Flight deck mission control panel
The three FDMCP, located
on the P-8 (Figure 4-6) and P-61 (Figure 4-7) panels, interface with the audio control panel (ACP).
These panels interface to allow crew members to access the commercial VHF radios and interphone channels as well as the public address (PA).
What is the function of the FDIU and where is it located?
Flight deck interface unit
Interfaces VHF and nav audio
Speaker-muting for the PA system
Hardware interface to the commercial VHF radios and the navigation audio for the flight deck and the mission crew member.
The FDIU also provides access to the VHF radio and one of the mission V/UHF radios (in UHF mode) for emergency operation. The FDIU provides speaker-muting for the PA system. When a crew member keys the PA system, the PA speakers in the vicinity of that crew member are muted to prevent feedback.
Note regarding playback via CSUs
Playback is only wired through CSU1. If CSU1 is lost or an IBIT
is being performed, playback capability on the aircraft will be lost
Where is the FDIU located?
This FDIU, located in the E1-5 shelf, below the forward
cabin door
What is the function of the FDIU?
Interface to VHF and NAV audio
VHF and V/UHF (UHF only) for emergency
Speaker-muting for PA
What is speaker-muting?
When a crew member keys the PA system, the PA speakers in the vicinity of that crew member are muted to prevent feedback.
How many crew member and ICS speakers are there?
Eleven
Next to each MAP
How do you turn off the ICS speakers?
Toggle switch on the Jack boxes
Can you listen to classified audio via the ICS speakers?
No
How many PA speakers are there?
18
Does PA Tx take precedence over radio and Net Tx?
Yes
PA Tx takes precedence over
radio and Net Tx at position but is subordinate to ALL CALL
Is PA Tx subordinate ate to ALL CALL?
Yes
What is the function of the ICS junction box?
Interface between Crewmember headset and MAP
The microphone of headset connected to the _____________ port is automatically disabled when the smoke mask is removed.
The microphone of headset connected to the ICS OPERATOR port is automatically disabled when the smoke mask is removed.
Headset or smoke mask microphones connected to the _____________ port are always active.
Headset or smoke mask microphones connected to the ICS OBSERVER port are always active.
Crew using ICS long cords SHOULD/SHALL only use the OBSERVER port connection while the smoke mask is in use at the station where they connect to the ICS.
SHALL
Crew using ICS long cords shall only use the OBSERVER port connection while the smoke mask is in use at the station where they connect to the ICS. Speaking priority at each station should be given to the individual connected using a long cord when smoke masks are required
All secure audio in the crew member’s headset is muted when ______ is activated on a clear channel.
PTT
The _________ are the hub of the ICS system; all communications data is routed through them
CSUs
The standard interface defaults to _____________, the only CSU that supports playback from the NSS.
The standard interface defaults to CSU-1, the only CSU that supports playback from the NSS.
When CSU-1 ethernet fails or a user commands an IBIT for CSU-1, the system activates the interface on CSU-2 and the system performs normally except for…
Except for loss of playback on the aircraft
The ________ and the _________ are the operators’ primary interface with the ICS
MAPs and FDAPs
The ICS interfaces with _______ software including both communications management and recording functions associated with audio, crypto, and secure/clear radio status.
MCDS
The ICS has a warm-up time of no more than _______ seconds
90 seconds
This nonvolatile CSU memory provides default communication capability to all crewmembers if
the mission software is not active.
______________ takes precedence
over all other communications on the MAP.
CALL NET
MAP discrete indicators: A (yellow)
Indicates activity on associated NET (i.e., NET1, NET2, NET3)
MAP discrete indicators: X (white)
Tx Enable (white) — Indicates the associated NET (i.e., NET1, NET2, NET3) is enabled for transmit on activation of PTT or hot mic select. Tx circuit type indicator must indicate ICS to transmit on NETs

Note regarding ESM audio alerts
Route Audio Alerts is enabled by default for the ESM Operator
role, and disabled by default for all other roles.
However, initiation of the Reload CommPlan button will result in the loss ofmission crew radio and ICS communications for approximately ___ seconds.
90 seconds
What comms are still available during a Reload Comm Plan?
Communications using VUHF-1 will still be possible from the flight deck during the reload.
Note regarding ICS parity alerts
ICS parity alerts are advisory only and do not indicate a need to reload the comm plan.
