4.1: Geology And Past Processes Have Influenced The Physical Landscape Of The UK Flashcards
How has the UK’s geology effected the landscape ?
The UK has many fossils as it used to be covered by a tropical sea. When sea life died it fossilised or became rocks which are part of the land today.
How have tectonic processes effected the UK’s landscape ?
Higher land was created when earthquakes tilted strata, which are skeletons formed into rocks, as the convection currents beneath the crust caused the movement of UK from the tropics to where it is today.
How have glacial processes effected the UK’s landscape ?
As uplift occurred, rivers eroded the land to create V-shaped valleys, although in the most recent ice age glaciers mad Ethel into U-shaped valleys, leaving behind waterfalls.
List the 3 types of rock :
Sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.
Name locations where these 3 types of rock can be found :
Igneous and metamorphic : Scotland, North of Wales
Sedimentary : England and Wales
