Why do we need laws?

A
  1. We need laws so people know what behaviour to expect from each other
  2. We need laws so people can work and be involved in business without someone taking away all the rewards of their work.

What is retribution?

A

The theory that criminals should pay for their crime. It makes criminals suffer for what they have done wrong, just as their victims suffered.

What is reform?

A

Criminals should be taught not to commit crime again. Includes giving criminals an education in order to help them get a job, so they no longer turn to crime.

Why is justice important for Christians?

A
  1. The Bible says that God is just and will reward the just, and punish those who sin.
  2. There are many statements in the New Testament about how Christians should treat people fairly and equally.
  3. The Christian churches have made many statements about the need to work for justice and fairness in the world.
  4. The Bible says that people should be treated fairly and not cheated.
