4.1 Flashcards
Cell Wall
PLANT CELLS
Surrounds the cell membrane.
Provides structure.
Cytoplasm
Jelly like substance thy contains organelles.
Organelle
Specialized cell part that carries out specific functions.
Mitochondria
Provide energy for the cell.
Glucose into usable energy.
Chloroplast
Trap energy from the Sun and make glucose.
Ribosomes
Do not have a membrane.
Some float in the cytoplasm.
Others are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum.
Makes proteins.
Proteins
Necessary materials required for the cell to carry out activities for survival.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Membrane covered channels within a cell.
Transport system.
Vesicles
Membrane covered sacs that form off the endoplasmic reticulum.
Transport new proteins to the Golgi body.
Golgi Body
Sorts and packages proteins for transport.
Nucleus
Controls all the activities in the cell.
Surrounded by the nuclear membrane.
Nuclear Membrane
Protects the Nucleus.
Nucleolus
Membrane free organelle that floats in the interior of the nucleus.
Nuclear Pores
Openings in the nuclear membrane that allow only certain materials into and out of the nucleus.
DNA
Two-stranded molecules that look like a twisted ladder.
