403 - Chapter 3 Flashcards
Components of hydraulic cylinder
Piston
Rod
Chamber
Double acting
Can put liquid and pressure on either end.
Types of seals:
Wipers Rod seals O-rings Piston seal Chevron seal
Which stroke is always stronger?
Extension stroke
Volume on rod side is always smaller for full stroke.
True
When Q and stroke is constant:
Then retraction time is smaller than extension time.
How do we determine how large a piston diameter is required for the cylinder?
We need to focus on pressure. How much load we need to push or pull.
What is the pump flow rate required to drive the cylinder through its stroke in a specified time?
Time component is flow rate. If you increase time then you increase flow rate.
How much hydraulic horsepower does the fluid deliver to the cylinder?
HHP = P * Q / 1714
If pressure increases, then flow rate decreases
