40 CFR Part 264 STDs Owners & Operators of Hazardous Waste Facilities Flashcards
Solid Waste Management Unit
any waste management unit at a facility from which hazardous constituents might migrate, irrespective of whether units were intended for the management of solid or hazardous waste
Point of Compliance
a vertical surface located at the hydraulically down gradient limit of of waste management unit that extends through the uppermost aquifer underlying the unit
Waste Management Unit
the limit placed by a horizontal plane of the area on which waste will be placed during active life of the unit
Compliance Monitoring
ascertain whether the constituents released to the uppermost aquifer are exceeding acceptable concentrations and threatening human health and the environment
Corrective Action
when a hazardous constituent from a waste management unit exceeds an established regulatory chemical concentration limit in groundwater between a compliance point and down gradient facility boundary, O/O must institute correct action
goal is to eliminate the cause of a non-conformity or release and to prevent recurrence
Aquifer
Consolidated or unconsolidated geological units, formations, or series of units or formations that are hydraulically interconnected and have the ability to receive, store, transmit, and yield water to wells or springs
