4 - Thin walled pressure vessels Flashcards

1
Q

Cylindrical Vessels

A
  • Subjected to loading from all directions when the vessel is pressurised
  • The cylindrical vessel has a wall thickness (t) and inner radius (r) and subjected to a gauge pressure (p)
  • Thin wall refers to a vessel having an inner radius to wall thickness ratio of 10 or more (r/t ≥10).
  • When the vessel is “thin” the stress distribution throughout its thickness will not vary significantly and so we assume that it is uniform or constant
  • Loading is uniform
