4 - Thin walled pressure vessels Flashcards
1
Q
Cylindrical Vessels
A
- Subjected to loading from all directions when the vessel is pressurised
- The cylindrical vessel has a wall thickness (t) and inner radius (r) and subjected to a gauge pressure (p)
- Thin wall refers to a vessel having an inner radius to wall thickness ratio of 10 or more (r/t ≥10).
- When the vessel is “thin” the stress distribution throughout its thickness will not vary significantly and so we assume that it is uniform or constant
- Loading is uniform
