What were the causes for the October revolution?
-culmination of events since the abdication of the tsar in march
- weaknesses of pg and defeat in first world war
- political manoevures of Bolsheviks under Lenin and Trotsky
- deteriorating economic situation and resentments of soldiers, peasants and workers
How did kerensky respond to the dangers of the Bolsheviks?
-seemed powerless to do anything to stop the assault
- finally acted 23 October - ordering printers of Bolshevik newspapers ( Pravda and Izvestia) to cease activity
- attempted to restrict power of military revolutionary committee and sent troops to raise bridges linking working class Petrograd to the City centre
- gave Bolsheviks an excuse to react as troops claimed kerensky’s actions were a betrayal of the Soviet and principles of the February revolution.
