4 - Layered Grid Architecture Overview Flashcards
The 5 Grid Layers
Application Collective Resource Connectivity Fabric
Execute grid applications
Application, grid service compositions (workflows)
Coordinating multiple resources
Collective, ubiquitous infrastructure service, app-specific distributed services
Sharing single resources
Resource, negotiating access, controlling use
Talking to things
Connectivity, communication (Internet protocols) & security
Controlling things locally
Fabric, access to and control of resources
Fabric Layer
Provide access to resources - computational, storage, network
Connectivity Layer
Manage communication: defines core communication and authentication protocols. Communication and securtiy reqs
Resource Layer
Sharing of a single resource (sharing is caring). Information and management protocols for secure negotiation, initiation, monitoring, control, accounting (payment)
Collective Layer
Coordinating multiples resources, not associated with any one specific resource. E.g. Directory services, Co-allocation, scheduling and brokering service, Monitoring and diagnostics, Data replication
Application Layer
User defined grid applications. Users applications constructed by utilizing the services defined at each lower level
