Quantitative procedure
Measured amount of stool

Uses
Correlates the severity of clinical disease with intensity of infection
Assesses the efficacy of antihelmintics and reduction of worm burden following treatment
Check the color and consistency of stool
Place a huge amount of stool in a newspaper
Press the stool with nylon mesh wire
Place the template with hole in the center of the slide
Scrape the stool using scraper
Place the scraped stool in the template slide
Remove the template carefully
Place the soaked cellophane on the stool
Using the rubber stopper, press the stool sample evenly
Cover the whole stool with cellophane
Label the specimen (name, date and time)
Allow the specimen to settle for an hour or two before viewing under the microscope (no need for cover slip)

High Power Objective
Multiply the total eggs counted by the following factor to express the count as
Egg Per Gram Feces (EPG)

If parasite egg or larvae are seen, report as:
Positive for species and stage of the parasite
(1 egg = 24 eggs per gram)
Ex: positive for Ascaris lumbricoides egg
If parasite egg or larvae are NOT seen, report as:
No Intestinal Parasite Seen (NIPS)
