4. Absorption By Roots Flashcards
Define Guttation
Guttation is the process by which drops of water appear along the leaf margins due to excessive roots pressure
Define bleeding
Bleeding is the loss of cell sap through a cut stem
State the sentence whether it is true of false
1. Guttation takes place maximum at early mornings.
2. Raisins submerge in water swells up due to Exosmosis
- True
- False
Give two examples of turgor moments of plants
- Shame Plant/ Mimosa pudica/ Touch me not Plant.
- Insectivorous Plants
Define Imbibition
Imbibition is a phenomenon by which living or death cell absorb water by surface attraction.
Define diffusion
Diffusion is a free movement of molecules from Higher concentration to lower concentration in a direct contact
Define osmosis
Osmosis is a movement of water molecules from higher concentration to lower concentration through a semipermeable membrane.
Define active transport
Active transport is the passage of substance from its lower to higher concentration through a living cell membrane using cell energy.
Root hair is an extension of
Epidermal cells
Mention any three characters of roots
- Surface area of root is enormous.
- Root Hairs has contain Cell sap of higher concentration than the surrounding water.
- Root has have thin Walls.
Primary functions of root
1.Photosynthesis
2.Transpiration
3.Mechanical stiffness
State any four logical reasons for which plants need roots
- Root draws water from the surrounding
- Ability to provide mechanical stiffness
- Conducts photosynthesis
- Excess of water dissipated in during transpiration
If you uproot a plant from the soil it wilt soon? Why?
That leaves continue losing water by Transpiration, therefore no more water left that is absorbed by roots. So leaves wilt.
If you Sprinkle some common salt on growing grass, it is killed at that spot? why?
Due to Exosmosis takes place himself it becomes flaccid, as a result of plasmolysis the grass a killed.
Soaked seeds burst their seed coats. State your view
The soaked seeds swell up when soaked in water due to imbibition and the endosmosis. Due imbibitional pressures seed code ruptures in the beginning of germinating seeds.
Define between hypotonic and hypertonic solution
Hypotonic solution - In this condition, The solution outside the cell has lower concentration than the fluid inside the cell. Turgid Condition. Endosmosis
Hypertonic solution - In this condition, the solution outside the cell has higher concentration than the fluids inside the cell. Flaccid Condition. Exosmosis
Remember the views about turgidity and flaccidity
Turgidity - In this state of cell with cell with rigid cell wall and stretched by increase of volume of vaculoes due to absorption of water. Hypotonic Solution
Flaccidity - In this condition the cell content is not rigid and the cell is not tight. Hypertonic solutic Solution
What is mean by transpiration pull
As water is lost from the leaf surface by transpiration, more water molecules are pulled up due to tendency of water molecules to remind conjoined. this produces continuous column of water throughout the stem which is known as Transpiration pull.
Name any one feature of this plant cell which is not present in animals cell
Cell wall
Name for selectively membrane which is used for experimental purpose
Parchment paper, animal bladder, egg membrane, Visking bag.
