Provided a system of development of new states in the Northwest Territory.
How are the Articles of the Confederation and the U.S. Constitution similar?
They provide for a lawmaking body
What did the Founding Fathers who created the Articles of Confederation fear?
They feared a strong federal government. They created a system where the states held the power and the federal government was weak.
What were the restrictions on Congress set forth by the Articles of Confederation?
Congress could not collect taxes, regulate trade and had no national court system. Lacked national unity.
What did the framers at the Constitutional Convention have to do?
They had to compromise on many issues
How can the U.S. Constitution be changed?
By the amendment process.
What did the Federalists want?
A strong national government. Disagreed with anti-federalists.
What did the anti-federalists want?
Strong state government. Disagreed with anti-federalists.
How can Congress override a presidential veto?
A 2/3 majority vote in Congress.
How can a law be declared unconstitutional?
Yes. If Congress passes a law and the president signs it, the Supreme Court can use the power of judicial review to declare unconstitutional.
Why do we have a checks and balances?
To make sure none of the branches of government get two powerful.

Carries out laws
What does the judicial branch do?
