3rd degree Flashcards
How were you prepared to be passed to the second degree?
In a manner somewhat similar to that in the former save that in this Degree I was not divested of all monies and metallic substances of value or hoodwinked, I had my left arm and breast and right knee made bare, and my left heel slipshod.
On what were you admitted?
On the Square.
What is the Square?
An angle of Ninety Degrees or the fourth part of a circle.
What are the peculiar objects of research in this degree?
The hidden mysteries of nature and science.
As it is the hope of reward that sweetens labour, where did our Ancient Brethren go to receive their wages?
To the Middle Chamber of King Solomon’s Temple.
How did they receive them?
Without scruple or diffidence.
What were the names of those two great pillars?
That on the left was called BOAZ and that on the right JACHIN.
What are their separate and conjoint significations?
The former denotes “in strength” and the latter “To Establish”, and when conjoined “Stability”, for God said of King Solomon “He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his Throne forever.
Why in this peculiar manner?
Without scruple, knowing that they were entitled to receive them, and without diffidence, from the strict reliance they placed in the integrity of their employers in those days.
