Ethnicity intro
Ethnic groups are identified according to their distinctive cultural features. The members of an ethnic group usually have a shared sense of history, a common cultural tradition and a collective identity. Sociological research into ethnicity shows ethnic minorities are disadvantaged compared to whites.
Weber intro
Weber was originally a student of Marx. He believed that instead of simply looking at the relationship to the means of production (as Marx does) one should consider the distinction between class, status and party. In regards to ethnicity he looks at status inequality, underclass and Organisation of the job market
Marxist intro
Marxists argue that black people are part of the exploited working class and it is this, rather than any lack of status due to ethnicity, that determines their fate in capitalist society. Racial conflicts are usually the symptoms of some deeper underlying class problem. USE TO EVALUATE STATUS INEQUALITY
postmodernist intro
Grand narratives are useless - ethnicity has broken down
