The members of an ethnic group usually have a shared sense of history, a common cultural tradition and a collective identity. Sociological research into ethnicity shows ethnic minorities are disadvantaged compared to whites.

Weber was originally a student of Marx. He believed that instead of simply looking at the relationship to the means of production (as Marx does) one should consider the distinction between class, status and party. In regards to ethnicity he looks at status inequality, underclass and Organisation of the job market
