3901 (4/29/14 - 5/2/14) Flashcards
What function does the Feed Ion Exchangers serve?
Removes lithium and fission products from the feed to reduce activity.
What function does Aux Steam serve for the NBAE?
Provides a heating source to both the Evaporator and the Feed Preheater.
What does the level indication of the Unit 2 MFP L/O Tanks measure?
The top 30 inches of the Tank.
Why do we have Air Assisted Check valves on our Feedwater System?
To keep the check valves out of the flow stream to prevent erosion of the valve.
What is the function of the Fuel Oil System?
Stores, transfers and supplies fuel oil for use in the EDG.
Describe how the Boric Acid Batches made.
800 gallons of Demin Water, heated by Aux Steam, agitated by an agitator, Boric Acid Bags are added to the Batching Tank through the Strainer to keep the Plastic Bags out. Can be sent to the BART or BAST’s.
What are the sources of water to the MFP Seal Water System?
- Normally supplied from the CBP Discharge.
- Backup supply is from the MFP Seal Water Pump which takes suction from either the CST (alternate) or the discharge of the Hotwell Pumps (normal).
What are the MFP Trips?
- Low Vacuum
- Overspeed
- Low Suction Pressure
- Low Lube Oil
- Excessive Bearing Thrust
- Safety Injection
- Hi-Hi S/G Level
- Rx Trip
- Manual
What’s the function of the EDG Lube Oil System?
To keep the EDG supplied with clean L/O at the proper temperature, both when the EDG is running or shut down.
What is the normal flowpath for the Unit 1 MFP L/O?
- Shaft-driven Pump
- L/O Cooler (1 of 2)
- L/O Duplex Filters
- Bearing Oil Header.
- L/O Return Header.
What are the trips on an EDG after a loss of DC power?
- Manual pull knob on the Worthington Panel
- Mechanical Overspeed
Why does Radiation Protection perform a survey of the sluice piping before and after sluicing?
Radiation levels higher than the pre sluice survey indicates stuck resin.
What are the four major steps involved in sluicing demineralizer resin?
- Loosen resin with Primary Water backflushing.
- Sluice resin to the Spent Resin Storage Tank with Primary Water.
- Leak check the demineralizer.
- Refil the demineralizer.
What indications/evolutions involving the NBAE need to be logged?
- NBAE Startup.
- NBAE Shut-down.
- Opening/Closing Stripping Column Drains.
- Pumping down the NBAE Bottoms.
(Be sure to include component details like start/finish levels/pressures, boron concentrations, etc.)
What is the capacity (Rx Power) of a single Main Feed Pump?
~65% Rx Power.
What will cause the auto-start of the MFP Seal Water Pumps?
15 psid between the MFP Seal Water Pressure & the MFP Suction Pressure.
What are the trips available on the EDG’s while modified for Appendix R operation?
- Mechanical Overspeed
- Trip Pull Knob on the Worthington Panel
How are the MFP’s ELO’s operated?
- Air Open.
- Spring Closed.
- Ensures 4,000 gpm flow through the MFP’s.
What are the trips on an EDG following an Auto-start (SI/Load Shed)?
- Electrical Overspeed
- Generator Phase Differential
- Manual Push Button(CR/Local)
- Incomplete Start
What are the four basic parts to the NBAE?
- Feed System
- Concentrates System
- Heat Source
- Distillate System
What must be verified prior to breaking vacuum on the MFP Pump Condenser?
The MFP Condenser is isolated from the Main Condenser.
What are the potential sources of Boric Acid to the BAST’s?
- BART
- NBAE Bottoms
- Batching Tank
What does the Feedwater System provide during load changes?
Sufficient fluid capacity to accommodate changes due to expansion and contraction from temperature/pressure changes in the S/G’s.
How does the Reactor Protection System (RPS) support the Main Feedwater System?
Provides the Feedwater Isolation Signal.
