An alternative architecture that figures prominently in cognitive neuroscience is the neural network. Models can be ‘lesioned’ to test whether the resulting change in performance resembles the behavioral deficits observed in neurological patients. Lesioning thus provides a tool to assess whether the model accurately simulates a particular cognitive process or domain, and more important, to shed a light on the credibility of the model.
