intelligence quotient (IQ)
This is a mathematical formula that is supposed to be a measure of a person’s intelligence.
IQ = MA/CA x 100
Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)
an intelligence test that is used quite commonly, and it measures the verbal and nonverbal abilities of adults.
aptitude tests
a test designed to predict learning capacity for a particular area or particular skills
achievement tests
a standardized test that is designed to measure an individual’s level of knowledge in a particular area
standardization
Consistency and objectivity of how tests are administered and scored
normal curve
A frequency curve where most occurrences take place in the middle of the distribution and taper off on either side. Normal curves are also called bell shaped curves.
reliability
refers to the extent to which a test or other instrument is consistent in its measures
validity
if the test measures what it was intended to measure
content validity
refers to how well a test measures the behavior for which it is intended
predictive validity
the extent to which performance on a test is related to later performance that the test was designed to predict
