3.7.2 Bengn and Malignant Renal Tumors Flashcards
Renal adenoma
Benign: <3 cm in diameter and well demarcated margins
Medullary Fibroma AKA?
Renomedullary Interstitial Cell tumors
Congenital mesonblastic nephroma
Mistaken for Wilm’s tumor
Congenital Benign tumor, discovered as Abd mass
Gross: Solitary, unilat, tan fleshy, ill defined borders
What benign tumors resemble RCC
Angiolipomyolipomas but has encapsulation and no necrosis
Oncocytoma but uniform tan to brown color; arise form collecting duct
What is more common malignant or benign tumors?
Malignant
Most common Malignant tumor?
RCC
Gross appearance of RCC?
Appear as nodules or mass that are sharply demarcated from remaining renal parenchyma.
Arise from upper or lower kidney
Where do RCCextend to in the capsule?
Perirenal fat, renal vein, and adrenals
Classic triad sx of RCC
Flank pain, hematuria, and palpable mass
Metastases of RCC where?
Lungs and bones
What are transitional cell carcinomas?
Sx? Tx?
Papillary neoplasms of renal pelvis that resemble carcinomas of urinary bladder
Sx: Hematuria and urinary obstruction
Tx: Surgical tx for grade 1 and grade 2; grade 3 unfavorable
What age is common for Wilm’s tumor
2-6 yo
AKA for Wilm’s
Nephroblastoma
3 congenital syndromes with Wilm’s
WAGR syndrome Wilm’s; aniridia; GU anomalies; retardation
Denys-drash WT1 mutation; Wilms+glomeropathy
Beckwith Weidmann syndrome: deletion of WT2; Wilms+ gigantism with visceromegaly and macroglossia
3 fetal tissues in wilms tumor
Metanephric blasema: small ovoid cells growing in nests
immature mesenchymal stroma: Loose spindle cells resembling fibroblasts with possible foci of skeletal or smooth muscle, fat, or bone
immature epithelial elements: Small tubular structures and immature glomeruli
