3.6.1.1 Circular motion Flashcards
What is centripetal acceleration?
The acceleration of an object moving in uniform circular motion, it is perpendicular to the direction of linear speed (points towards centre of circle)
What is centripetal force?
In same direction as acceleration. Its the resultant force towards the centre of the circle required to keep a body moving in unform circular motion. (because F=ma)
What is a radian?
The angle subtended by an arc of length S and radius
What is angular speed?
The rate of change of angular displacement with respect to time.
What is the formula for centripetal acceleration?
a=v^2/r=rѠ2=vѠ
What is the formula for angular speed?
Ѡ =𐤃θ/𐤃t =v/r=2pif=2pi/T
What is the formula for centripetal force?
F=mv^2/r=mrѠ^2=mvѠ
