3.6 Structure of Prokaryotic cells Flashcards
1
Q
What is the function of the plasmid?
A
Small loops of DNA that aren’t part of the chromosome. Contain genes for things such as antibiotic resistance and can be passed between bacteria.
2
Q
What is the function of the flagellum?
A
Long hair-like structure that rotates to make the bacterium move.
3
Q
What is the function of the DNA?
A
floats free in the cytoplasm. Circular DNA, cintrols cell activities.
4
Q
What is the function of the capsule?
A
Made up of secreted slime, helps to protect the bacteria from attack by cells of the immune system.
