35 USC 112(a)
- Written description must be clear and concise;
- To enable one skilled in the art to make and use; and
- Include the Best Mode
35 USC 112(b)
Specification shall conclude with one or more claims (unambiguous, clear and concise)
35 USC 112(c)
Claims may be in independent or dependent form (even multiple dependent form)
35 USC 112(d)
Subject to 112(e) a claim in dependent form shall contain reference to a previously set forth claim with further limitations
35 USC 112(e)
A claim in multiple dependent form shall contain reference to more than one previous claim with a further limitation but can’t depend from another multiple dependent claim:
i - Can reference more than one previous claim in the alternative (or)
ii - Claim should refer back and only further limit the subject matter
35 USC 112(f)
An element in a claim for a combo may be expressed as means or step for performing a function without having to recite structure, though construed to cover structure
i - use of “means” or “step” in claims may require all details if discussed in spec -OR-
ii - alternatively, leave out such terms of written as a function to be performed without structure or acts
