34x Study Flashcards
Windshear Escape Maneuver
- Max thrust
- TO/GA
- ATS off
- AP off
- Wings level (DO NOT follow LATERAL FD guidance)
- Pitch up 15 deg, THEN follow FD vertical guidance)
- TO/GA guidance will command up to intermittent stick shaker!
- TO/GA in FMA (and red WINDSHEAR on PFD) = you have guidance
Windshear (PWS) Caution or Warning below V1
ABORT
Windshear Encounter on Runway at V1 or Greater
- ATS off
- MAX thrust
- Rotate at Vr but NLT 2000’ remaining
- No aural indications, must watch PFD!!
Action for Windshear on Departure, PWS Caution
“Monitor Radar Display”
Maneuver to avoid windshear
Action for Windshear on Departure, PWS Warning or Actual Encounter (GPWS/Reactive WS)
PWS Warning - “WS Ahead” x2
GPWS/Reactive - “WS” x3
Windshear Escape Maneuver
- Max thrust
- TO/GA (again)
- ATS off
- AP off
- Wings level
- Pitch 15 degrees
PM: “You have guidance” - Call out ANY omissions - RADALT - # and trends - Airspeed trends
After Exiting Windshear (on Departure)
- Pitch to 15 degrees and manage power
- rate, gear up
- 1000’ AGL - VNAV (if continued departure)
- otherwise stay in TOGA and ATS will fly spd for current flap setting (for max GW)
- ATS back ON, then:
- SPD window: leave closed to clean up on speed
OR open and bug for desired flap speed
- SPD window: leave closed to clean up on speed
- After T/O Checklist
- PIREP!! (Alt and Aspd loss)
Windshear Parameters (Conditions)
- 15 kts
- 500 fpm
- 5 deg pitch change
- 1 dot GS displacement
- Unusual thrust lever position
Action for Windshear on Approach, PWS Caution or PWS Warning
Windshear Escape Maneuver OR Go Around WEM: - Max thrust - TO/GA - ATS off
- AP off
- Wings level
- Pitch 15 degrees
PM: “You have guidance” - Call out ANY omissions - RADALT - # and trends - Airspeed trends
- Must add 1/2 HW + all gust to Vref!!
- Try to meet ALL stabilized criteria by 1000’ AGL
After Exiting Windshear (on Approach)
- Pitch to 15 degrees
- At/Above Vref:
- TO/GA power, Flaps 15
- rate, gear up
- 1000’ AGL - Flaps 5, remains in TO/GA
- ATS back ON, then:
- SPD window: leave closed to clean up OR open and bug for desired flap speed
- After T/O Checklist
- PIREP!! (Alt and Aspd loss)
Action for Windshear on Approach, GPWS/Actual Encounter (“WS” x2)
Windshear Escape Maneuver
- Max thrust
- TO/GA
- ATS off
- AP off
- Wings level
- Pitch 15 degrees
PM: “You have guidance” - Call out ANY omissions - RADALT - # and trends - Airspeed trends
- Must add 1/2 HW + all gust to Vref!!
- Try to meet ALL stabilized criteria by 1000’ AGL
Stabilized Approach Criteria
1000’
- On centerline
- 1000 fpm descent MAX
- Fully configured
500’
- On airspeed
- Engines spooled appropriately
Rejected Takeoff Procedures
CA:
- “Abort, I have the aircraft”
- Disengage ATS, close thrust levers
- Use RTO aborts at/above 90 kts; MAX manual braking for aborts <90 kts
- Max reverse thrust (for existing conditions)
- ensure SB is up, pull if necessary
FO:
- [Announce any abnormalities on T/O roll]
- [Call out if CA no brakes, T/Ls, ATS or rev thrust]
- “Speedbrakes up”
- “80 knots”
- Call to tower, request emergency equipment
When stopped: CA: - Brief PA announcement - Do immediate action checklist - Inform FAs, another PA-more details - Post-RTO Considerations checklist - Config Park brake on, SB—>down, Flaps—>40 before engine shutdown in case of evac - EXCEPT if door lights illum-pax evacuating already!
FO:
- QRH non-normal, then QRH Rejected T/O
- Evacuation checklist IF REQUIRED
- If evac, FO goes out a fwd exit, helps evac from outside acft (FOM Chp 17)
STOP-CONFIGURE-SHUTDOWN-EVACUATE
Autoland Approach Callouts
“FLARE ARMED” NLT 500’ AGL
If monitoring AIII:
“No AIII” or “APPROACH WARN” if observed
FLARE engaged approximately 50’ AGL
RETARD A/T engaged approximately 27’ AGL
AIII Approach Callouts
AIII active:
CA: “AIII”
FO: “AIII ON THE RIGHT”
FLARE annunciated:
FO: “FLARE ALIVE”
“NO AIII” and “APPROACH WARN” as observed
[“SB UP” and “80 kts” on rollout]

Engine Failure after V1
- Do NOT increase thrust on good engine (Vmcg/a)
- Slowly pitch to 12*, then follow FD (V2 to V2+20)
- -V2+15 is “single white bug”
- -Limit bank angle to 15* until at/above V2+15
- –LNAV may command >15*; do not follow it!
- Scan to PFD (slip/skid ind, FD, and heading bug)
@400’ AGL:
H-eading Select (or LNAV as appropriate)
A-utothrottle off
T-ower radio call/IFE
@1000’ AFE:
B-ug Flaps 1 speed
A-PU - start
T-rim 5 units into GOOD engine
- Level Change (MCP SPEED)
- MCT (FMS N1 Pg.; PM manually set throttle to caret)
- After T/O checklist (first—easily forgotten)
- Approaching lvl-off, reduce thrust and rudder smoothly
- Engine Failure (QRH checklist) - after stable at level off!
- When stable and level, trimmed, engage AP
