2 reactions in photosynthesis?
Light dependent and light independent
Process of light dependent reaction?
Light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll, causes the photolysis of water. This produces hydrogen ions and electrons
Light energy excites molecules in chlorophyll, electrons are lost, travel down electron transfer chain (giving ADP enough energy to produce ATP)
The NADP takes up the electron and hydrogen ion
Light independent reaction process?
C02 binds with RuBP to form 2GP
The 2GP is reduced and activated to form 2TP, 2ATP and the 2NADPH are hydrolysed to provide the energy for this to occur
5 carbons from the 2TP make RuBP and 1 makes 1/6 of a glucose molecule
How temperature affects rate of photosynthesis?
When temp rises = increased rate of photosynthesis, because it is more efficient for enzyme reactions to occur
After the optimum temperature, there is a reduction in the rate of reaction, as enzymes are denatured

Carbon dioxide + water –> glucose + oxygen

What does the absorption spectra show?
Shows that a low absorption of light means the wavelengths aren’t absorbed and can’t be used, but are instead reflected back
How leaf structure adapted for photosynthesis?
Large SA: collect as much sunlight as possible
Thin: short diffusion distance
Transparent cuticle: let light through
Numerous stomata: for gas exchange
How chloroplast structure is adapted for photosynthesis?
Large SA: for attachment of chlorophyll, electron carriers/ enzymes
Network of proteins: hold chlorophyll in precise manor for max light absorption
Enzymes: help manufacture ATP
DNA/ Ribosomes: to quickly manufacture proteins required

When a substance combines with oxygen (or gains a hydrogen molecule)
