3.4 Flashcards
Enzyme
A protein designed to act as a catalyst in chemical reactions.
Substrate
The to be product that binds to the enzyme.
Activation energy
The required energy to begin the chemical reaction.
Active Site
The location on the enzyme where the substrate binds.
Inhibator
A protien that binds to the enzyme and changes its active site in a way that prevents it from binding to the substrate.
Tempreture.
Diping below 40 degrees C will slow the reaction rate and going above 40 degrees will cause the proteins to begin to denature.
Substrate concentration.
Will increase the reaction rate but eventually taper out.
Enzyme concentration.
WIll decrease the reaction rate.
pH
will cause the enzymes to not work proporly if it rises or falls below 7 pH.
