3.3 Transport in plants Flashcards
1
Q
Why do plants need a transport system?
A
-To take substances from and return waste products to their environment.
-Need to move water and minerals from the roots to the leaves and sugars from the leaves to the rest of the plant.
2
Q
What are the transport systems made up of in plants?
A
Vascular tissues
3
Q
What are the two main forms of vascular tissues?
A
The xylem and the Phloem
4
Q
What transport happens in the xylem?
A
Water and Soluble mineral ions travel upwards in the Xylem
5
Q
What transport happens in the Phloem?
A
Assimilates, such as sugars travel up or down in phloem tissue
