Direct Evidence
Direct Evidence: Evidence that directly proves the fact in question without a need to inference or connect the dots
Could be evidence given by a witness or physical evidence
Circumstantial Evidence
Circumstantial Evidence: Indirect evidence that links the accused to the crime
ex: your belonging is found at the crime scene
Physical Evidence
Hair, fingerprints, bodily fluids, DNA
Can be either direct or circumstantial
Class Evidence
Class Evidence: narrows it down to a group of persons or things (ex. Clothing, blood type, car type)
Individual Evidence
Individual Evidence: narrows it down to a single person or thing (ex. Fingerprint, DNA, handwriting)
Principle of Exchange (for crime scenes)
principle of exchange, which means that when a person comes in contact with another person or object, a cross transfer of physical material can occur (trace evidence)
